The Quietest Season on Record?

By John Kenny

There seems to be something going on in the Loyalist City where the historically active or perhaps one may say over-active Kings GM John Kenny is always in the middle of a deal.  On the tails of last season where The Saint John Kings made a team record low 7 trades between GM meetings, we have seen Kenny only pull the trigger on 5 trades.  It seems even two of those deals were just 2 parts of the same deal between Souths Esks Shannon Goodfellow and the Kings. When asked about the apparent lack of activity GM Kenny told us “Not as many opportunities have presented themselves this season.  It is not that the deals are not there to be made, but the right deals for where we stand in comparison to others in the league are few and far between right now.  Someday if we feel it is the right time to rebuild, or if the market presents us with an offer we can’t refuse then you will see me making moves. This just does not seem to be the right time for change, I like our team, our fans like our team and our players want to be here!”  New comer Nick Suzuki has stated "There is a great culture in this organization and I cam glad I came here to try and contribute to a second Saint John Cup"

It is abundantly clear the Kings management and players feel they have something special on their hands here and after a miserable first 20 games, Saint John looks like they have the chance to bring home an ODBHL Cup to the deserving fans of Saint John.  The beginning of the season saw a couple of salary sacrifice deals that looked like they could cripple the Kings chances of winning, then the deadline brought a couple of fill-in pieces into the fold so with those key  moves it appears Kenny and company think they have the right formula to win.
