Royals Pickup Veteran Starter

By Jeff Nagle

The Riverview Royals acquired veteran goaltender Veini Vehvilainen and veteran farm forward Filip Forsberg from the Moncton Melons in exchange for aging legendary goaltender Matt Murray, prospect Joe Juneau and a conditional 1st round pick in the upcoming draft. The move reunites Vehvilainen with the Royals where he served as the team's goaltender in season 12.

"We're only four games in but we knew we needed a change right away. Giving up six goals a game just isn't going to cut it regardless of who we're facing. We want to be a competitive team this year and Veini gives us that hope for this season as well as the next two." said GM Nagle.

Sometimes it doesn't take long to identify problem areas in your game, and sometimes it's not fair to pin the problem on one position in particular. However, with a 7.79 goals against average and an awful 0.757 save percentage in four games, it's quite glaring that the Royals' problem is between the pipes.

"We wish Murray all the best in Moncton. He's had good success there in the past and I have no doubt that he'll turn his game around there. But it just wasn't working out for us, and we can't sit around to wait for his game to turn around here." finished GM Nagle.
