Season 13 has finally started after a long 2 day layoff between the GM meeting and pre season trades so the Melons are once again cap compliant. Also this season bring the team conference trade with a 2 for 2 conference swap. Even creepier the teams played each other on day one against each other.
Will the Senators become the fourth team to win back to back cups. Probably not. Will the juggernaut Kings win title no#2. Probably not.
Either way onto the predictions, as always Shannon does the math works and I write nonsense based on actual NHL players and the new blood of retro 19 or 18 year old.
Riverview Royals 15.7 to 1 win the cup
Thankfully we are in an atmosphere where there are no more 99-1 odds. Any team could realistically win. Except a couple don’t want to, case in point the Riverview Royals. It wasn’t a full tear down but more of a refresh.
Think of it like this the team hit a point where going to dance clubs wasn’t cool any more and anyone 30 or older was exiled for the new regime. The team still has talent like Lundestrom , Svechnikov and bouchard.
But it was time for a new identity for Guhle , Hordichuk and new arrival Dave A. We'll call him for my spelling well being.
Once a place where a player's careers made the last stop Loggieville has started amassing young talent that will bring forth the Royals new beginnings.
Bathurst Angry Ducks 13.8: 1
We're going to go for a little journey through my old stomping ground that is the Lemieux Conference.
Another year and the Ducks continue the methodical full rebuild but it will have some recent additions to bolster the ranks. Stevie Y takes his place as the future of the franchise and the surprise offseason improvement of Brandt Clarke.
It will take a few years for 1st overall pick Craig Anderson to get the hang of the pro game. It is certain the 18 year old will gather many hair growth related advertisements.
Speaking of hair: if you haven't seen Kasparitis’ photo it’s pour gold. Could he be related to Senators GM Grant Tallon.
Oromocto Senators 11.6 : 1
Speaking of Grant Tallon
This is a public service announcement :
If you ever win the cup you need to hire some security to monitor your star players to ensure they don’t overextend themselves and live to regret it and do questionable fan related activities . (See Spencer Knight )
The team depth is ridiculous on the forwards and defense side with the addition of Luke Hughes who could be the next superstar with most former Adrien Plavsic winners closer to the end than the beginning.
The problem is the goaltending will be the team's downfall , how far is the question. I’ve had some pretty bad goaltending on paper and have not gotten shellacked so anything is possible for the defending champs.
Albert County Renegade 11.4 :1
Every preseason the most popular gambling websites have the usual over under. In Albert County the most popular is the over/under for games played for Tim Stutzle. Every year it looks like this will be the year he stays healthy and puts up ridiculous numbers.
The team added Brady Thachuk to bolster its aggression with a premier power forward to play between McDAvid and Stutzle. There team has increased it’s depth at the forward position the top end of the defense including superstar 212 year old Owen Power will be asked to shoulder the load this year.
In net the team moved on from Igor Shesterkin as the youngster Jesper Wallstedt looked to split the time. The Russian demanded a trade and Adam Fox’s move to Miramichi was cancelled. Gibson was brought in to mentor the young goalie as he’s done in the past with Blackwood and Askarov.
Dorchester Devils 9.5:1
After a magically run to the finals this past year, the Devils find themselves in a new conference with new opponents to underestimate them until it’s too late.
As Samsonov has turned 30 is now the time for the Devils to capture the second cup. He was their best player in the playoffs and will need to anchor the net and keep the scores low.
The team has good forward depth and the blue line is good, not great and will need star D Seider to justify his new contract.
Is this the year Matty Berniers become a 60-70 point scorer and become one of the star centers in the league. Also with two rookie centers behind him does he start looking back and want impact could have in the rookie of the year race.
